Whether you are planning on installing wall panels on a tiled, plastered or painted surface we have got you covered
In this blog we are going to give you some top tips to help you prepare your space, before installing wall panels.
Before starting on any wall you will need to remove fixtures such as toilets, vanity units, or shelves. This will enable you to install the panels comfortably without the worry of damaging any bathroom furniture. Don’t worry. after installing your panels you will be able to put everything back in its original state.
Uneven Surfaces
Wall panels are a great way of concealing unwanted wall décor or uneven surfaces. They offer minimum intrusion into your space as well as provide a waterproof, durable, beautiful wall covering.
Tiled Walls
If you are planning to put wall panels over existing tiles, you will want to abide by these tips for a smooth, simple installation.
Clean down the tiled or uneven surface, ensuring all debris and dirt is removed. This will ensure the Adhesive/Silicone sticks your panel to the surface.
Purchase edging trims or seals with your panels to ensure you panels are watertight. We recommend trims for the internal corners and along your shower tray or bath.
Breeze Block Walls
You can apply the same principles to breeze blocks as you can to tiles. Ensure the surface of the breeze block wall has been cleaned thoroughly, checking that all residue has been removed. This increases the bonding strength between your wall and your panels.
Ensure all cracks or holes in the walls have been filled to provide better insulation and prevent any weak spots in the wall. Note that the panels depends on the strength of the wall behind it.
Extreme Uneven Surfaces
If your walls are very uneven (for example your tiles are extremely bumpy or there is damage to the wall) you may need to re-plaster your walls before proceeding with the installation.
Even Surfaces
Painted Surface
Sand down the wall surface to ensure any bumps or uneven patches are eradicated.
Ensure all cracks or holes in the walls have been filled to provide better insulation and prevent any weak spots in the wall. Note that the panels depends on the strength of the wall behind it.
Plastered walls/Plaster boards
You need to ensure that your newly plastered walls have been dry for at least 2 weeks.
We also recommend that you seal newly plastered walls with primer, this will increase the bonding strength of the panel and wall once adhesive/silicone is applied.
You might want to check the walls are flat with a spirit level.
Panelled Wall
For a quick installation you can install new panels over existing panels, however if the new panels are thicker than your existing panels, we recommend that these are removed before installing new panels
Ensure all panels are wiped down and all residual has been removed.
If you do remove your existing panels, ensure you carry out the same steps as you would for tiled or uneven surface.
